About Us
Six women devoted to saving the lives of female alcoholics founded North County Serenity House in 1966 with the opening of a home in Poway, CA. In 1972 the program moved to a small home in Escondido. Growing need for residential, and drug abuse services led to the expansion of 27 beds at our flagship site.
Since 1990 NCSH has grown tremendously, adding, 4 homes for women and children, services for homeless women, a 140-bed residential facility, 2 child development centers, a Learning Center, and administrative offices. In 2007, NCSH finished building Serenity Village, which helps meet the area’s need for affordable transitional housing through its 48 beds for women in recovery and their children. In 2009, North County Serenity House was proud to open Serenity Friendship House, a permanent sober-living housing facility for women.
Vision
All women in San Diego County with substance abuse addictions who want to overcome their addictions, will attain long-term sobriety and, along with their affected families, live with hope and dignity on their way to becoming contributing members of the community.
Values
- Community – NCSH believes that healing from the consequences of alcohol and drug addiction can be found in the support, unity and acceptance provided by a fellowship of people dedicated to recovery, assisted by skilled and empathetic professionals. Out of a sense of joy, not obligation, we want to share with others our hope in the future and give back to our community.
- Confidentiality – NCSH believes that the chances of recovery increase when we protect the anonymity of each client and her affected family members on her unique path to sobriety. The honest self-disclosure necessary for recovery can only happen in a safe and secure environment.
- Fairness and Equity – In all its dealings, NCSH will treat its clients, employees and other stakeholders with impartiality, respect and dignity. It does not discriminate in any way based on nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinion.
- Sobriety – NCSH is dedicated to helping its clients and their affected family members experience the benefits of living life on life’s terms, one day at a time, without the use of alcohol and/or other drugs.
- Self-Help – NCSH believes that long-term sobriety of its clients is enhanced by emotional and economic self-sufficiency and a profound desire for personal growth and change.
- Learning and Innovation – NCSH is committed to continuous improvement through learning. It supports clients, their affected family members and other stakeholders in their quest for personal growth and insight, including appropriate employment skill development. NCSH also strives to provide the most effective standard of care and treatment through professional growth and development.
